Before creating your own fonts...here are some things you should keep in mind:

1. Different parts of calligraphy pen :-

The pen used for calligraphy consist of two parts- the pen holder and nib. Both these parts come in various sizes specially the nib and one should use the appropriate one according to the design which need to be made.

The different parts of the nib used is shown in the above image and as we are using this tool so we should have a complete knowledge about it.

2. Holding of pen :-

Unlike other pen, there is a different technique to hold calligraphy pen. It is little bit trickier to hold it and also needs practice. In order to make it work it should be hold at a 45 degree angle to draw a straight line.  In other words, one should make sure that your nib is leading the line.

3. Stroke is the key :-

Strokes plays a very important part in calligraphy. Better command on strokes will result in better font making. So one should practice stokes before creating fonts.

Traditional calligraphy consist on more balanced and systematic font designs.
