Art on chalk [Chalk Sculpture]

Today I am here with another beautiful and unique work of art i.e., Chalk Sculpture.

Working on chalk is very tricky and has both advantages and disadvantages. Its main benefit is its softness, which makes easy to manipulate it. On the other hand, its biggest disadvantage is its structure, which tends to be very delicate.

This  material is very brittle and dusty. However it is very much in budget, readily available, easy to work on with simplest tools and maximum detailing can be given on it. Natural or non-processed chalks are commonly used for creating chalk sculptures as they are available in variety of shapes and size is not limited.

Numerous tools can be used for chalk carving. Any sharp tool such as needle can be used.

Types of chalk carving :

1. Single piece :-

Under this method, sculpture is created using a single piece of chalk.

2. Multi-piece :-

Under this method, two or more individual chalk pieces are used to create sculptures.

In India, Artist Ramita Bhaduri is the pioneer in chalk scupture.  Sachin Sanghe is another chalk sculptor.

Art on black paper

Whether you are a hobbyist or a professional artist, everyone loves to accept creative challenges while creating their artworks. If you are looking forward for one such creative challenge, why not try drawing on a black paper. It is fun to draw on black paper using various color mediums.

Drawing on black paper helps in adding a visual quality to any artwork.

Different tools can be used to work on black paper such as white charcoal, colored pencils, oil pastels etc.

Technique one needs to know while working on black paper :

Drawing on black paper is like working in reverse. While working on white paper or light colored paper we start with light shading and then moving towards deep shadows. The exactly opposite trick is followed while working on black paper; a dark ground is already there, so one needs to start from pitch black, and then move to medium gray and finally to bright white marks.

Working on black paper with wide variety of tools is amazing. One should definitely try it to improve his/her creative skills. Some beautiful and inspiring artworks on black paper are :

Artist smokes feather onto pottery

Today I am going to share with you an extremely unique and beautiful work of art. In this work of art the artist smokes feathers onto pottery. Isn't it an unique idea!😍

Vincent Garcia has been working with ceramics for 38 years. He learned how to smoke feathers and hair onto clay in 1984. The techniques are similar to Japanese Raku and Native American Horsehair Pottery

Here's how he does it :

1.  He starts with traditional wheel throwing.
2. Then he uses smooth stones to polish each piece. The process is called Burnishing.
3.  Then the pieces are fired at 2,192°F.
4.  He adds the feathers while the pieces are still hot.
5.  As soon as it touches, it catches fire, creates smoke and that feather is then transform into a black surface.
6.  Finally, he blows the ashes off so the designs don't smear.

This artwork is extremely unique, beautiful and interesting. And a must watch😊
